Communities: Central City/Black Hawk

Central City is a quaint liittle mining community developed in the late 1800's. It is famous for its summer opera season held in a historic opera hall. The town underwent re-developement in the early 1990's as one of the three limited stakes gaming commmunities in Colorado. Central City, however, unlike Black Hawk, chose to retain its historical roots and has saved its historic commercial district much as it was over a centruy ago. Central City is currently in the process of constructing a new access road from I-70 which will reduce the drive to a mere 8 miles.

Black Hawk is the premier gaming community in Colorado. It is the home for over a dozen Las Vegas style casinos. The town is nestled in the valley cut by North Clear Creek centuries ago. It was likewise founded as a mining town in the late 1800's. Black Hawk was redeveloped in the early 1990's to support limited stakes gambling. It is easily accessed by Colorado Highway 119 from Golden. In addition to gambling the town has numerous restaurants and other entertainment opportunities.
